3809

Mark Rodgers almost made it half way to a no-hitter today going 4.1 innings without a hit. He allowed the hit to Jonny Gomez. It was also the first hit Mark Rodgers has given up, going 9.1 innings without one allowed

3808 and Counting

A single to Jesus Feliciano made 3808 consecutive games allowing a hit.

3807 Games and counting

Counting today, the Brewers have a 3807 game streak of allowing hits to the opponents. If the Brewers manage to lose the second game today, they will have a 1807-2000 record since Juan Nieves pitched on April 15, 1987.

The hit today was to Angel Pagan in the first inning.

Injury Report

Unfortunately for the Packers, Ryan Grant is done for the year. He will have ankle surgery. This bumps Brandon Jackson up to the number 1 slot.

However the outlook is not as bleak as it seems. Jackson has definitely matured since his last run at the lead running back in 2007 and Favre lost against the Saints putting the Viqueens a game back already.

Switching Focus

Since the Brewers season is basically over, I have decided to switch my focus to the Packers. Please try to bear with me while I gush over how amazing Aaron Rodgers is or how underrated Ryan Grant is as a running back.

Stuff I got at game

Here is some of the stuff I got at the Brewers game on August 29. All of this is new except the hat, which I got last year.

Game 130 8-4 win over Pirates

As per annual tradition, this was the Brewers game I decided to attend for my birthday, and it turned out to be a good one.

Bush was his usual self, giving up homer after homer. He gave up three total, giving him 3 ER and 4 runs total. He went seven innings though giving the bullpen a well deserved rest. Braddock and McClenddon combined to pitch 1.1 innings no run and some guy named Hoffman came in and got his 599 save. Some might say that is impressive.

On offense, the Brewers roughed up the Pirates starter Morton, plating 8. Unfourtunately the rest of the Pirates pitching staff kept the Brewers silent only allowing 2 more hits. Braun was the star of the day, hitting a 2 run homer and three singles. He is now batting over .300 for the season.

MVB: Braun 4-4 1BB
LVB: Fielder 0-4, with 4 hard hit balls
Stay tuned for pictures and video from the experience.

Game 128 7-2 win over Pirates

This was a close game as the pirates held the Brewers scoreless for the first five innings. The Brewers got their first run in the sixth, then they plated 6 in the 7th.

Narveson pitched well for the game, going 7 innings scattering 7 hits and a walk. He gave up 2 runs, one in the 2nd and 5th. Loe relieved him for the 8th and walked two and got no outs. Braddock came in and finished the 8th and Axford finished the game for the Brewers.

MVB: Escobar 2-4 2RBI 1run
LVB: Loe

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Game 126 5-4 loss to Dodgers

Well an average, short pitching appearance by Wolf against his old team led to another Brewers loss. The offense couldn't seem to do anything right either. So surprise surprise they lose.

MVB: Weeks 2-4
LVB: Wolf

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Game 125 5-3 loss to Dodgers

Dave Bush gave up 5 runs in 6 innings, putting the Brewers in a big hole that they, with McGehee's near cycle, couldn't overcome.

With the Brewers down by two runs in the 8th Casie McGehee came up needing a home run to complete the cycle. Fielder had doubled in the previous AB. With a man on second, McGehee lined a 0-1 to second base who promptly doubled off fielder.

The Brewers looked like they could have a chance to even the game at 5 in the ninth after they got 2 on with 1 out. After a line out and a strike out later, the game was over.

MVB: McGehee 3-4
LVB: Bush

Game 120 3-2 win over Cardinals

After a long mental vacation, I am back.
Today the Brewers played the Cardinals. After taking the first game in the series, the Brewers looked for the sweep of a short two game series.
On the mound for the Brewers was Wolf. Wolf had a great start, going 8.1 innings and allowing one run in the ninth. Axford came in to pitch the ninth looking for his 19th save. He struggled mightily, allowing one run, and driving in Wolf's run. Axford was removed with two out and the bases loaded. Hoffman came in and struck out the final Cardinals batter on three pitches for his 598 save.

The whole offense today can be tied to Cain, who drove in one and scored two more. The Brewers got 7 hits, but only managed 3 runs.

MVB: Cain
LVB: Axford

Game 108 4-3 Win of Cubbies

After a huge offensive game yesterday, the Brewers faced a cubs pitcher making his major league debut.

The offense managed to get an early start by plating one in the first, but the Cubs answered back in the bottom of the frame. The Brew Crew got another run in the 3rd, 4th, and 7th. This made it 4-1. The Cubs managed to get another run in the 7th. Into the 9th, the Brewers were leading 4-2. Axford got his 16th save after allowing a run in the 9th but closed it out none the less.

Narveson pitched well, but he was taken out after 5.2 innings due to a high pitch count. He only game up 1 run. The bull pen pitched ok, with Coffey and Axford giving up the two runs.

MVB: Braun 3-4
LVB: Hart 0-4 3SO 1BB

Game107 18-1 Win vs Cubs

Well the first three innings made this game look like a pitching duel. The last five, however, was pretty much the opposite of a pitching duel with the Brewers scoring in every frame. The Brewers tallied 18 runs off of 26 hits, and three walks and 33 total base runners. Even Trevor Hoffman got an at bat in the 9th. Gomez was at the plate 2 time in the middle of the game and got hit each time. That had only happened twice before in Franchise history and the last Brewer to do this was Fielder in 2006.

Gallardo pitched like an ace, going 6 innings, giving up 1 run off of 3 hits and striking out 12. Hawkings and Hoffman came in to pitch in the no pressure situation and performed well.

MVB:Fielder 5-7 5 RBI 2R or McGehee 5-7 HR 4RBI 3R
LVB: Lucroy, a Ghastly 1-6

July Brewers Clip of the Month

At the end of July, the Brewers record stands at 48-57 prior to today's game. For July, the Brewers went 13-14. As it is the end of the month it is time for the Brewers Clip of the Month. It is from Joe Inglett's pitching debut for the Brewers on the 27th.

As you can see, Inglett lights up the radar gun, he almost broke 60 mph at one point. Apparently Macha told Inglett not to throw too hard. I guess he took that to heart. Amazingly though he didn't allow a base runner in his 1 inning of work. At his current pace, he will lead the NL in WHIP and ERA. If only he could do that for 200 more innings.

Follow the link to see his perfect debut.

Inglett pitching debut

Game 106 5-2 Loss to 'stros

Well that was a quiet series for the Brewers. The lost all 3 games by a combined score of 16-2. Wolf pitched well, but was the hard luck loser. Good new today though as the offense actually scored some runs. Sorry for the scarce blogging this series, not that there was much to blog about.

MVB: Hart, 1-4 HR
LVB: Tie, Loe 8 pitches, 0 strikes, and Braddock gave up Grand Slam.

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Game 105 6-0 Loss to Astros

Another game, another disappointing loss to the 'stros. After not scoring a run in the first game, the Brewers did a repeat perfomance and failed to push one across the plate again. Bush gave up 5 run in the first two innings, and six overall. The Brewers first four batters had 6 hits, the rest had zero. Terrible series.

MVB: Weeks 2-4
LVB: Tie, offense and Bush

Game 104 5-0 loss to Astros

The long ball killed Parra in this game. The Brewers couldn't get a hit when it mattered on offense. They seemed to have two on every inning but struck out the end it.

MVB: McGehee
LVB: Parra

Game 103 10-2 Reds over Brewers

Well for five innings at least the Brewers look to have a chance to win the series. All of that went down the drain fast with a 5 run 6th inning by the Reds.

The Brewers actually struck first on a RBI double by Braun and an RBI single by Lucroy

Narveson held the Reds scoreless for 5 innings, but he couldn't get anyone out in the 6th, allowing the first four batters to reach. Loe came in and allowed 4 runs while getting two outs. Coffey came in and retired the final batter, but the damage was already done. By the 9th the Brewers were down 10-2 after allowing a grand slam to Phillips and a solo shot to Votto.

MVB: Escobar 2-4 with double
LVB: Inglett 0-3 3 SO Silver Sombrero

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Game 102 12-4 loss to Reds

A terrible pitching game from Gallardo and the rest of the pitchers led to a Reds lead that the Brewers couldn't come even close to making up.

Almost every pitcher who appeared for the Brewers today gave up a run. But there were two pitcher who pitched a perfect inning. One was Hoffman who has shown flashes of his old self recently and the other was Joe Inglett.

Rickie Weeks managed to hit another homer for his 3rd home run in as many days. Weeks also had a single and a walk. Gallardo also hit a homer, his fourth of the season. Nothing much else happened on offense. It was not a very good game at all.

MVB: Weeks
LVB: Gallardo

Game 101 3-2 win over Reds

Edmonds got to play the hero today for the Brewers. He broke a 2-2 tie in the 8th with a pinch hit homer.

After a rough second inning where he allowed 2 runs, Wolf pitched a great game. He didn't allow any more runs and went 7 strong innings, showing us the Randy Wolf of last years Dodgers. He also struck out 5 and only walked 1.

On offense, it was a relatively slow day, with only 3 hits for the Brewers. First was Randy Wolf helping his cause in the 3rd. Immediately after Wolf's hit, Rickie Weeks hit his 21 of the year over the fence, tying it at 2. It stayed that way until the 8th, when Edmonds sent one into the Bleachers.

This was the 7th consecutive win at home for the Brew Crew. The Brewers are only 5 games under .500 now

MVB: Wolf
LVB: Everyone besides Wolf, Weeks, and Edmonds 0-∞

On a side note, congradulations to Matt Garza for throwing the 5th no-hitter of the year for the Rays, their first one in their short history. Now it Gallardo's turn.

Game 100 8-3 Win of Nationals

With help from McGehee and lack of defense, the Brewers swept the Nationals. It is the second straight sweep at home for the Brewers, who seem to have finally found their groove back at Miller Park.

Bush pitched 6 innings giving up 2 ER, 3 total runs, giving him another quality start. Both team combined for 4 errors and 6 unearned runs.

McGehee hit a three run homer in the 7th, putting the game out of reach, since they were already had five runs. Weeks also hit a homer, his 20th of the year.

MVB: McGehee, 2-3, 14 homer of the season
LVB: Braun, 0-4

Saturday, July 24, 2010

Game 99, 4-3 walkoff win vs Nationals

Braun, for one day at least, is the hero. With a home run in the first, Braun started the game with a bang. He also ended it with a walk off single with two on.

Parra allowed 4 hits in 6 innings, along with 2 ER. Axford came into the 9th with a one run lead, but unfortunately blew his first save.

MVB: Braun, 2-4 HR and walk off single
LVB: Axford, Blown Save

Game 99

After a good game yesterday, its Manny Parra vs JD Martin. Parra has an ERA of almost a run and a half higher than Martins, 5.52 to 4.14. Martin is a control pitcher who only was 8BB in 45.2 innings.

My Prediction, Brewers lose. Manny throws a stinker... same old, same old.

Friday, July 23, 2010

Game 98 7-5 win over Nationals

Sorry for the lack of pregame. I got tied up with something.

Anyway, a poor start by the Brewers starting pitcher almost ruined the day for the Brewers, who got down 5-1 by the fourth.

The Brewers scored right away in the first inning off of a Corey Hart triple followed by a sac fly. Narveson doesn't like pitching with the lead it seams so he gave up two home runs to Michael Morse and a RBI single to Zimmerman. The Brewers scored again with two runs in the 5, 6, and 7th. And thus ended the scoring. Brewers held on to win 7-5 and Axford got his 14 save.

MVB: Escobar 3-4, avg is now over .250, not great but improving
LVB: Narveson

Game 97 3-2 win over Pirates

Wow, just when I give up on the team, they pull off a win like this. It wasn't too impressive of a win, unless you compare it to the last two games.

All of the parts came together today. The offense scored just enough to get the win. The pitcher held the pirates scoreless for six innings. Gallardo made a strong return from injury. He didn't allow a run in his innings. His ERA is now just 2.45.

Rickie Weeks had a triple and a HR, powering the Brewers to the win.

MVB: Gallardo, 6IP, 0 ER, 5 K
LVB: Coffey .2 IP, 2ER

Game 97

Brewers are playing for a split in the series against the lowly pirates. Gallardo makes his return. He was injured last game before the all star break.

Brewers will probably lose today. Based on the Brewers most recent streak, Gallardo will give up 10 in the first couple of innings and the Brewers will become the first team since before 1936 to have 5 starter who have given up 10 runs in a game.

Game 96 recap 15-3 Pirate over Brewers

image from https://ssreporters.wordpress.com/2010/01/13/seahawks-football-101-playing-on-the-road/

Games like this make me almost want to give up on this team. Its official, I am declaring that we stand 0 chance at getting even close to the playoffs. We probably won't even make it back to .500.

Wolf gave up 12 runs all earned. That would be considered bad for most teams, but lately this is about the best a Brewers can pitch. The Brewers have given up 26 runs in the last 2 games.

The offense managed only 3 runs against one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball.

MVB: Not a Brewer, that for sure
LVB: Wolf

Game 96

The Brewers lost yesterday in a terrible game by the Dave Bush. Randy Wolf will attempt to get the pitching staff back on track against Zach Duke. This is the third straight starter that the Pirates threw at us who had an ERA over 5 coming into the game. Both teams have scored 12 runs in two games this series.

Expect a Brewers win today, hopefully. Maybe a homer from Braun and Fielder. 6-5 win.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Game 95 Recap

A great day for the Brewers offense was ruined by a terrible day by Dave Bush. The Brewers scored 9, but Bush gave of 10 runs, 5 of which were ER. The Brewers lost 11-9. 9 of the 10 runs Bush gave up were in the first inning. Two consecutive errors after a grand slam provided an insurmountable lead. After they were down 9-0, they almost made a comeback, but couldn't string together a big hit in the 9th.

MVB: Edmonds, 4 for 5, triple shy of the cycle, 3 RBI
LVB: Bush, of course

Im now 1-5. Maybe tomorrow the Brewers could put together both good pitching, like yesterday, and good hitting, like today.

Game 95

After squeaking out a win yesterday, all with lucky hits, the Brewers look to right the offensive ship against Pirates rookie starter Brad Lincoln. He only has 7 games in his career, averaging 6 innings each appearance. He is by no means a power pitcher, and tends to give up a lot of homers, based on his small sample size.

Bush takes the mound for the Brewers. He has had six straight quality starts, which has lowered his ERA by a full run in that span.

I predict another win today, but this time the offense will come alive and chase the rookie early. Bush will contribute 6 innings and will get a win. 7-2

Game 94 recap

I finally got one right, and the Brewers took the first game of four against the Pirates.

The offense was terrible, but luckily, ever hit by the Brewers came around to score. The Brewers only had three hits total, and didn't have a base runner until the 5th inning. Two of those hits were home runs, Weeks and Fielder, and the third hit, Gomez, was on base when Weeks rounded the bases.

Capuano pitch exactly like I predicted, 5 strong innings, 1 ER, 3 hits allowed. He also earned his first win in over 3 years. He definitely made a case to replace a struggling starter in the rotation. The rookie bullpen held the Pirate scoreless the rest of the game. Axford got his 12 save in dramatic fashion, 2 BB followed by 2 K's and a ground out.

MVB: Weeks, 1-4, 2 RBI HR
LVB: Hart, 0-4, 2 K, ending 9 game hit streak.

I am now 1-4, while the Brewers are 3-2 since this blogs creation.

Game 94

Today the Brewers start a four game series at the Pirates. With the way the Brewers have been playing against the Pirates, I can definitely see them taking 3 out of 4.

Capuano was called upon to start today. He faces Karstens, who is not a dominant starter by any measure. Karstens has a 4.87 ERA in 77.2 innings, while walking 22 and striking out 41. He also has allowed 16 HR.

Expect the Brewers to smack a couple over the fence today. The Brewers will win big. Capuano will go 5-6 strong innings, making a case to rejoin the actual rotation. Hopefully this will be the one I get right. Right now I am 0-4, while the Brewers in that span are 2-2.

Top 5 Prospects

Well with this season looking like a lost cause, I feel that we could look towards the future of the Brewers franchise. While the Brewers don't seem to have too many dominant pitcher at the high minor leagues, they do have some good pitchers in the lower levels. I have listed my top 5 Brewers prospects. I am not considering Brewers who are currently on the Major League roster (half the bullpen or Cain) or Brewers who are spent a good portion of any year on the roster (Gamel).

1. Brett Lawrie 2B AA - After a decent year last year, Lawrie has had a great year in AA. With him being one of the youngest players in AA at 20, you would expect that he would not quite be able to compete just yet. He is batting .288, and he has 25 steals in 34 chances. One area he could use a bit of improvement is his defense. He has 15 errors in 442 chances, good for a .966 percentage. This is not awful, but definitely could use some work. His peak is an All-Star player, but maybe not at 2B.

2. Jake Odorizzi SP A - The 20 year old Odorizzi is pitching well in A this season. His ERA at that level is 3.08. He has started 14 games, with 17 total appearances. The best part of his season is that he has only given up 4 HR in 84.2 innings. He also has 103 K's with 29 BB, good for a 3.55 K/BB. He has a nice upside, I expect him to be in AAA by the end of the next season. He could be an ace in a couple of years.

3. Wily Peralta SP A+ - At 21 years old, Peralta has a 4.13 ERA. He has pitched in 18 games, starting 16. In 98 IP, he has struck out 71 and walked 38. He needs a little work on his control. He has a peak of a 3-4 starter, provided he can walk fewer.

4. Amaury Rivas P AA - In 16 starts, he has an ERA of 2.66. While he is 24, Rivas had slowly climbed up in the Brewers organization. I expect him to be moved up to AAA by the end of August. He may also be one of the minor leaguers to make the team in September.

5. Jeremy Jeffress P A+ - Despite his drug problems, Jeffress has great stuff. He was banned for most of the last year for using recreational drugs, it was his second offense. If he fails one more drug tests, he is banned from baseball for life. If he can keep clean, he could be a quality major leaguers starter. Jeffress has a 2.76 ERA in the minor this year in 16.1 innings.

On to tomorrow's game.

Game 93 Recap

Well a bad start by Manny Parra put the game away for good, even with a decent comeback in the last couple of innings. Parra gave up 10 in 5.1 innings.

The Brewers had more hits than the Braves and got walked more times, but the Braves got hits when they mattered. They plated 11 on 13 hits, while the Brewers plated 6 on 14 hits. 3 of the 6 Brewers runs came in the last two innings. Fielder hit a solo shot in the 8th and Hart and Braun drove in two in the 9th.

MVB: Weeks 3-4, 2 HR, 3 R, 2RBI
LVB: Parra, awful

Game 93

Manny Parra vs Derek Lowe today. Both starters have a comparable ERA, Parra's is 4.65 and Lowe's is 4.35. With the Brewers winning 5 of 6, I have hopes for the rest of the season. I have all but given up on making the playoffs though, since even though it is still mathematically possible, it's most likely not going to happen.

Anyway, expect me to break my streak 0-3 today, cause I'm calling a Brewers win. Lowe will have a poor start and Para will pitch just good enough for the win. 6-4

Saturday, July 17, 2010

Game 92 Recap

Well, so far every game I predicted the Brewers to win, they lost. And every game I predict that they will lose, they win. I should just be pessimistic every game.

Narveson pitched a good game, 6 innings and 2 runs, and the Brewers win 6-3 against the Braves, which guaranteed at least a split in the series. Fielder hit his 21st HR of the season, but Corey Hart stole the show again with a bases-clearing double in the 7th. With the win, the Brewers moved to 42-50 on the season.

MVB: Hart 2 for 4, 2B, 3 RBI
LVB: McGehee 0 for 4

Well, tomorrow the Brewers, with Manny Parra at the mound, will play to take 3 out of 4 against the Braves, who are the best team at home in the MLB, who have Derrick Lowe on the mound.

Since creation of blog
Predictions 0-3
Brewers 2-1

Game 92

After a big win yesterday, the Brewers look to guarantee at least a split in the series against the Braves today. Doing that today will be tough since the Brewers are facing all-star pitcher Tim Hudson. With Narveson pitching today, the Brewers will need some good offense and definitely some luck. Good news for the Brewers though, in their last 5 games they have hit.300 and scored 25 runs. Also Braun has hit .381 and 3 HR in that span.

I think the Brewers will lose a squeaker 3-2 tonight, but based on my previous luck, the might win 10-4.

Friday, July 16, 2010

Game 91 Recap

Wow, the Brewers could have used a couple of those runs yesterday. Every starter had a hit except Wolf, who had a sac bunt and sac fly. Two Brewers had three hit games, McGehee and Gomez. The only bad news for the Brewers is that Doug Davis is going back to the DL. This brought up Lorenzo Cain from AAA. In his first career AB, he drilled a pitch to left that with most fielders would have been a double, but a nice play by Diaz made it a long fly out.

MVB: The whole offense ( I mean 9 runs and 16 hits, spread that out and we would be close to .500)
LVB: um... ...the weather?

Storm clouds above the stadium threatened the game early but play went on. Glad I was wrong for this prediction. So far I am 0-2 for my predictions of the Brewers.

Game 91

After a disappointing loss yesterday, the Brewers and Braves play game 2 tonight at 6:30. Randy Wolf faces Tommy Hansen.

Wolf has not quite lived up to the hype he got during the off-season, but the again Tommy Hansen has not dominated this season. Hansen has had a slightly better ERA than Wolf this year, 4.13 to 4.56. But after his 8 run blowup against the Cubs, Wolf has lowered his almost a full run, from 5.31 to 4.56. This season Wolf has already walked as many as he did last year, in almost 100 fewer innings.

Well after yesterday, the road seems like an offensive black hole. The Braves with their 31-10 record at home just seem like too good of a team to be beat right now. Unless Wolf has a dominant performance, the Braves will take the second game of this series also. My bet is a score of 5-3, Braves.

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Game 90 Recap

Well not a great game for the Brewers. Corey Hart continued crushing the ball with his 22nd homer of the season in the first inning, putting the Brewers up 1-0. In the third, Bush gave up two homers in three batters, putting the Braves up 2-1. Unfortunately, that was it for the scoring.

Bush pitched well but still took the loss, he went 6 innings giving up two runs, while allowing 7 hits and walking 2. He also struck out 5.

All around it was a disappointing day for the offense.

MVB: Hart

LVB: Escobar

Hart went 2 for 4 with a homer and a single. He drove in 1 and scored 1. Escobar went 0 for 4 and leaving 3 on base. Well, onto game 91.

Game 90

Today is the first game after the All-Star break. The Brewers play the Braves. Bush vs Jurrjens. As I write this, Ken Macha is the manager for the Brewers, meaning another day of not utilizing the speed of the lineup and leaving pitchers in after their arms fall off.

On paper, this looks like a good game to take for the Brewers. Bush is having a career year, especially since the meltdown in Minnesota, having his lowest ERA since his rookie year in Toronto. Brave's Starter, Jurrjens had an amazing year last year, going over 200 innings with an ERA of 2.60, but his year has been hampered by an extended injury. Jurrjens, has only made 7 starts this years, averaging 5 innings per.

For the Atlanta, rookie sensation Jason Heyward can come off the DL for the game. He definitely has some pop in his bat, but similar to all rookies, he goes through major up and down streaks.

For my prediction, I expect the Brewers to strike early, with a long ball in the first. Then the bats will die down for the Brewers. They will get a couple more in the later innings. In the end the Brewers will win 5-2 with Hoffman getting the save, moving him within 3 saves of 600.

All Star Game Recap

Since this is my first ever post game post, I feel that I need to explain a few things. For every game, I will try to do a post-game post which will recap some of the interesting portions of the game. I will also add a MVB which stands for Most Valuable Brewer and a LVB or Least Valuable Brewers. I will calculate these based on a formula that I created, which I will explain in depth tomorrow.

The first four innings of this game were a complete pitching duel. For the NL, Jimenez pitched a solid, but not great, 2 innings without allowing a run. They then followed it up with 2 perfect innings for Josh Johnson, striking out two. The game remained scoreless until the 5th when Evan Longoria walked. An error on pitcher Kuo with Mauer batting moved him to Longoria. He then scored on a sac fly by Robinson Cano. The NL the escaped the inning with no further damage. The game remained 1-0 until the 7th, when the NL rallied with 2 outs to load the bases. Brian McCann drilled a 0-1 count pitch to right field for a bases clearing double. That double made the score 3-1.

After a disappointing top of the 9th, the AL was batting to stay in it. After a single from David Ortiz, Adrian Beltre struck out for the first out. A head up play on a single by Joe Buck, in which RF Byrd through out David Ortiz, who misreading the play and retreated back to second, made it two outs. With two outs, Kinsler drilled the first pitch to deep right center field, but it wasn't far enough and the CF Chris Young was able to get under it, ending the game. It was the first win in the last 14 years for the NL.

In this game, the Brewers batters seemed lost to say the least. They only put 1 ball in play in 4 ab. They also struck out 3 times. It might have been better to stick Gallardo, at least he couldn't do any worse. On the the VB's.

MVB: Braun -> -4

LVB: Hart -> -4

Becuase they tied in score, I made a judgement call on who would be most valuable. Since Hart struck out with runners on 1st and 3rd in the 5th inning, I credited him with the least valuable. By default this gave it to Braun, who was statistically no better, since he ended the 2nd with a GIDP and struck out with a runner on 2 in the 5th.

All Star Game

The 2010 All Star Game is today with Hart, Braun, and Gallardo all selected/voted in. Gallardo however will not be participating either the 2010 or 2011 All Star Game. It is his own personal boycott of the Arizona Immigration law. Below are the starting lineups.

NL
1. Hanley Ramirez - SS
2. Martin Prado - 2B
3. Albert Pujols - 1B
4. Ryan Howard - DH
5. David Wright -3B
6. Ryan Braun - LF
7. Andre Ethier -CF
8. Corey Hart -CF
9. Yadier Molina - C
SP. Ubaldo Jiminez

For the first time in almost 3 decades, the brewers have two position players starting the game. The last time this happened was 1983. Also expect either Braun or Hart to be the first Brewers ever to record multiple hits in an All-Star game. My money is on Braun.

For my prediction, I expect the AL to jump out to an early 2-0 lead ofter the first. By the third the NL will get one back to make it 2-1. By the 9th I expect it to be tied 3-3. In the end, the NL will come out victorious with a tight 4-3 victory.

Home Run Derby Update

And just like that Hart is now leading the competition. He had a monster round, sending 13 over the fence while the closest before him had only hit 2. He is almost a sure thing to make it to the next round. His longest to this point was 464', by far the longest of the first 4 batters.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE
Hart is officially through to the second round.

FINAL UPDATE
Hart made it to the second round leading the competition, but fatigue and bad luck got the better of him and he couldn't push one out of the yard in the second. The final was David Ortiz vs Hanley Ramirez with Ortiz coming out victorious.

Home Run Derby

Today Corey Hart will compete in the Home Run Derby. By some miracle of the baseball gods, Hart is actually having a good season with 21 home runs already. He only needs three to tie his own personal record.

AL Hitters
  1. Miguel Cabrera - 22
  2. David Ortiz - 18
  3. Vernon Wells - 19
  4. Nick Swisher -15
NL Hitters
  1. Corey Hart - 21
  2. Matt Holiday - 16
  3. Chris Young - 15
  4. Hanley Ramirez - 13
The selections for the competition are odd to say the least. A perfect example is choosing Nick Swisher over Joey Bautista of the Tampa Bay Ray. Bautista wasn't even invited even though he leads the league in HR with 24. Another good example is Ramirez over Ryan Howard who as a grand total of 17.

My picks to advance to the final are Cabrera and Hart, mostly due to sentimental reasons, with Cabrera over Hart.

Welcome

As a lifelong Milwaukee Brewers fan, I have had my share of disappointment and heartbreak. Until the last five years or so, I could barely watch a game for fear of seeing them lose, which they probably did during those years. But I stuck with the team and they payed off. As an old teacher once said to me, " I have been a Brewers fan through the rough times and I will see them rise again."

This is my first post on A Brewers Perspective. I hope to add to the blog daily with my own recap of the game and random brewers updates. Be it trades or disheartening loss, I will cover it. Feel free to comment on any post.
